I understand that the nearest airport to Featherstone is Leeds-Bradford International Airport (about 25 miles or so) and so that is probably where I'd have to fly in to.But does anyone know of a suitable, relatively quick and cheap way to get from the airport to Featherstone? (I'm travelling alone.) |

You could always fly to Manchester instead. And try to get a train from the airport to near the venue. |

Thanks for your concern - I suppose Manchester Airport would be an option, but if I did fly into Leeds-Bradford International, then would it viable to get a taxi from the airport directly to the venue in Featherstone? |

Surely a bus would be a cheaper option? Maybe a train runs from the airport in that direction? |

I've tried to have a look at it for you and come to this conclusion:From Leeds Bradford International Airport to the lecture venue the distance is approximately 21 miles, that's a 42 mile round trip for you which in a taxi cab is going to cost you quite a bit of ## if you chose that option. But at least you will get there direct in a taxi. Also, there does not seem to be a direct bus that would take you from Leeds Bradford International Airport to Featherstone, so you would have to get from the airport to either Leeds or Bradford which again will cost you time and money. Then, you may be able to get a bus out to Featherstone from there. Leeds to Featherstone is: 13 miles Bradford to Featherstone is: 21 miles Which ever way you look at it it's quite a logistical headache but I am sure if you have the will there is a way it's not going to be cheap or easy I'm afraid. Manchester Airport to Featherstone is approximately 59 miles so that's going to be even more expensive for you to get there. I wish I was able to help you more. |

Once again, thanks a lot for all your help - I greatly appreciate it..The way it looks at the minute, time would certainly not be a problem as it looks as though the flight I'd have to take arrives at the airport at like 8.30 a.m., so I'll have a whole day of doing nothing (presuming the lecture is in the evening.) Also my flight home is at like 7.30 a.m. the morning after the lecture (And I won't be staying a night) so that leaves more time of doing nothing. Financially is where I'm stuck as like you said, the taxi is going to cost a bomb... in your opinion, out of my two options which would likely be the cheapest - taxi direct from Leeds-Bradford airport to the venue, or a bus to Leeds and then another to Featherstone? |

If you can't make it, you could always e-mail Ken and ask him if he could obtain a signing for you? It's worth a try, if you don't ask you'll never know!

Well, to be honest with you, while the prospect of an autograph is one of the main reasons why I'd like to go, I also want to go just to meet him (you know the usual - shake his hand, have a quick chat and get a photo). I'm going to try my utmost to get to both this event and then hopefully the Cernan event if possible so I can meet these great men while I still have the chance. They don't come over to the British Isles all that often so I just have to make the effort. |

I know it's far too early to know for sure yet, but is it likely that the Mitchell lecture will have around the same starting time as the Lovell event (7:30)?Just need to know for flights... |

Yes, that's the plan at the moment, to keep the same format as most of them.Subject to change at any time though! Plus a chance to attend the dinner on the Thursday too as we are doing with Lovell. |

Yes, email Ken for the April tickets and hopefully Cernan will still be coming later in the year. Let's take it one step at a time ehhh and get Ed over first. |

Looking forward to meeting Dr Mitchell again. He very kindly granted me an interview whilst on my trip to cover STS-125 in May of this year; Andy Green accompanied me for moral support. Great day. |

Yep, you did a fantastic job of organising our visit to Dr Mitchell Rick. It was nice to take a back seat so to speak for a change and not have to worry about it, great effort on your part that.We did have a great time too, many memories to savour. I too am looking forward to spending a couple of days with him in April. |

....and don't forget guys, before Autographica there is the evening with Apollo 14 LMP Dr Edgar Mitchell, in Pontefract in April. Tickets are only £30 and he will stay behind for an hour after the talk to sign at least one photo per person. You can have dinner with him the evening before; there will be photo opportunities, he will be signing at the dinner and tickets are £60. When you consider his fee last time he was at Autographica (from memory) was £40 a pop either option represents pretty good value for money.

Just a note, everyone in the UK or farther afield willing to travel, You all need to support this event. It is a great opportunity to meet a fantastic guy, as well as a moon walker! (Rick and I met Ed at his house last year) and these events will not happen much longer, so please buy your tickets ASAP because if you don't, the event will be cancelled just as the Jim Lovell one was! And what a shame that would be! We don't get that many opportunities here in the UK to meet such legends so support this event!I can assure you all, these events are not easy or cheap to organise so please do attend and buy tickets! or it wont go ahead, I can guarantee you of that! These are not for profit events. Please attend and buy tickets soon, either through Ken or contact me. |

Just for flights purposes, if the lecture starts at 7:30, roughly what time will the entire evening be coming to an end? |

Should be all over by 10:30/11pm as a guess at the latest. |

Andy's estimate is a good one but it will depend on how big the queue is for signing afterwards. I know at previous events run by Ken the atronauts have intimated they would sign for an hour only... ultimately signing for everybody who waited regardless of how long it took.A lecture, Q&A session and a signing all for £30 is darn good value. |

Good news - I'm going to be able to make the event! Sent for my ticket this morning. Who else on cS is attending? I was thinking of something to get signed and thought of a copy of the Apogee Books Apollo 14 mission reports. Any idea where one can get hold of a copy in the UK - they seem to be out of print/stock at the moment. |

I've spoken to Ken today and all seems ok at the moment for April. Ticket sales still slow but enough to part pay Ed.Speaking of which, Shane you still haven't sorted your ticket out, if you are still coming send me £30 worth of Euro's(cash) and I will pay Ken for you. Looking forward to meeting you all there. I'm looking forward to spending some more time with him. I'll be there all day Thursday and Friday. I will have my right hand man with me! you know who you are Mr Mulheirn! |

Like with any astronaut event anywhere there is always a chance it may not go ahead for a myriad of different reasons. At the moment it is all systems go for Ed's visit in April. |

We must try and fix something up nearer the day. I'll bet there are quite a few viewers of these pages who attend these events and no-one knows who is who.I'll be standing under the clock at 7 wearing a pink carnation in my buttonhole (or maybe not...). |
