Although this is kind of short notice I just found out that Alan Bean will be visiting the Green Bank Observatory at Green Bank, WV on the June 27. More info can be found here. |

Though Alan Bean should be incentive enough, let me put in a word for the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. While attending the University of Maryland, I would make annual trips there with the Maryland Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (MSEDS).It is truly a majestic sight to see these large radio telescopes line the valley, especially the Green Bank Telescope -- the largest steerable radio astronomy telescope in the world. And while the focus of the facility is radio astronomy, as a result of the rural area it is located in, the evening skies are just amazing. You can clearly see the band of the Milky Way stretching across the sky. For anyone who spends most of their time in urban areas, it can be a breathtaking experience. |

Mike, from Hagerstown, probably down Interstate 81.Yes as Robert says, it is a two-for-one day with both Captain Bean and radio telescopes in the quiet of the country. Garry |

I have attended the event before and it was alot of fun. I am lucky enough to have a place about 10 miles from Green Bank, you can spend hours looking up into the sky. Hardly any light polution in the area. |

Four hour, 200 mile trip each way: worth it (the WV mountains are tricky).Capt. Bean spoke for over an hour: excellent. I met mostly astronomers and had a nice chat with several space fans, Jeff and Jennifer from Staunton, VA. Both of them and their 3 year old daughter are very excited about space and astronauts and plan on attending the 7/19 NASM activities. Got the ninth signature on the Skylab floating heads litho. Hooray! The astronomy clubs did a nice job in putting the week long event together and I thank them. Our friend Tom G. would have enjoyed the week. Garry |

It was a great event and everyone seemed to have a great time. It was great to be around Mr. Bean for most of the day. He had a lot of great stories and his presentation that evening was great. |
