Has anyone here been to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center's Saturn/Apollo Reunion before? I plan to there on the 18 for my birthday. |

I attended in 2005 with Wally Schirra. He signed copies of Space Cowboys and I got to shake his hand. It was well worth it. That was also the weekend of Hurricane Katrina, so I had to leave the next morning and get back home in a hurry. I have fond memories of the event but not without thinking of Miss Katrina! But I might just have to go back to meet Walt Cunningham this year! |

Walt Cunningham is an absolute delight to meet and talk to. I've met him twice at the Frontiers of Flight museum here in Dallas and he is one of the most approachable of all the astronauts I've met.Met him for the first time back on October 4th 2007 for the 50th anniversary of Sputnik and he was most accommodating when I asked about a photo of him and my grandson together. Second time was in March of this year for the Heritage Auctions gala and got to spend about 10 minutes talking to him. An absolutely fascinating person... Jim |

I went to the 2006 reunion. The guest astronauts were Walt Cunningham and Dick Gordon. Owen Garriott also showed up and I think Jan Davis was there too, though I'm not positive. I had brought two different books with me to try to have signed by various people there. I went by myself, so when the buffet was first served I got some food and sat at a table by myself just watching for a little while. As the room filled I noticed an elderly couple looking for a place to sit and beckoned them over. It turned out to be Fred Ordway and his wife, so I got to spend several minutes talking with them about Dr. Von Braun. After eating, Fred was kind enough to introduce me to Ernst Stuhlinger and then he called Dick Gordon over to our table and I spent about ten minutes listening to the two men reminiscing. Mr. Gordon signed one book I had with me and was reaching for the other when I told him he'd already signed it several years earlier. He would have sat there and signed a few things if I'd had anything else with me. Later on, while wandering through the museum I ran into Walt Cunningham. I introduced myself and asked if he would mind signing something. He noticed the two books in my hand and said kind of gruffly "Just one." I assured him that was all I wanted as he had already signed one of the books several years earlier as well. I also got Owen Garriott to sign one as well and he seemed very amenable. I saw Konrad Dannenberg and George Mueller there as well, but never got a chance to talk to either of them, though I did see both sign things for other people. It's not an organized autograph event, but I think the guests will be agreeable as long as you don't get greedy.
All in all, I had a blast, especially getting to sit and talk with Fred Ordway. He was very interesting and seemed to know everyone there. Speaking of which, does anyone have an address for him? I'd love to write him a letter. Regards, Geoff |

It appears that Neil Degrasse Tyson may be filling in for Cunningham. |
