The Strategic Air and Space Museum in Ashland, Nebraska will host a series of four lectures in conjunction with the arrival on January 28, 2006 of Liberty Bell 7:January 28, 2006, Curt Newport
11am- Diver/Author who recovered the Liberty Bell 7- the deepest commercial salvage operation in history. Newport has participated in many high-profile undersea operations such as the salvage of Air India Flight 182, the Space Shuttle Challenger, TWA 800, and the broadcast of live images from the RMS Titanic.
February 11, 2006, Dr. Don Pettit
11am- Astronaut, International Space Station (ISS) Crew #6, ISS Science Officer. Pettit was on the ISS during the Space Shuttle Columbia accident in February 2003. In addition to conducting scientific research in orbit, he performed two space walks. He is known for his passion for educating young people.
February 25, 2006, Dr. Thomas Jones
11am- Astronaut and B-52 Commander, Jones is a veteran of four space flights and three space walks. He flew on Columbia, Atlantis, and twice on Endeavor. His latest book "Skywalking" will be released in February 2006. During his visit to the Museum, Jones will be available to sign copies of his new book.
March 11, 2006, Dr. Valerie Neal
11am- Curator of Space History at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum, Washington DC, she has edited two books on space exploration and curated two major exhibitions on the Space Race. Most recently, she led the effort to restore the space shuttle Enterprise for exhibition. Her presentation will focus on space history and the future of space exploration.
