Is anyone going to the Wings of Heros Gala in Seattle? If you are and you are planning on chatting with the Mission Control people and asking them for autographs I have one item that I would like to add their signatures to. If you would be interested in helping me with this then please contact me. Thanks for your time and your considerations. Mike Myer Humboldt KS |

Does anyone know if John Aaron will be there? I would love to get one photo signed by him. These guys were really something and I've found them to be very gracious in any contact I've had with them. John |

John Aaron is listed to attend and he was gracious when I asked for a couple of autographs at his induction to the Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame. Does anyone know how much it would cost to attend the Wings of Heros Gala? Mike |

Folks, re MOF Gala: Autographs at the Saturday evening fesivities are strictly discouraged. The Museum feels that is not the place for that. However, there will be book signings on Sunday, 6/12. Authors Liebergot, Chaiken, Kluger, Cox/Murray, Kranz, Cunningham should be there signing books sold and only one memorabilia item (Museum's request). Hopefully others such as Lovell and John Aaron will be there. I'll mention it to John, et al. Sy Liebergot "Apollo EECOM: Journey Of A Lifetime" www.apolloeecom.com

Thanks for the clarification, Sy.I have signed books by Sy, Kraft, and Kranz; and signed photos from Lunney, Hodge, Griffin, and Bales. They were all terrific and their place in my modest collection is treasured. I'd love to have something signed by John Aaron. If anyone can help please contact me off-list. Thanks. John |

Sy,Look forward to seeing you again.... I'll be working it and quite busy before/during/after. Should be pretty darn cool. The Museum of Flight received the Apollo 13 consoles from JSC that you helped them with and your tapes are hanging on the director's office wall.

The item that I was hoping to add signatures to is my copy of Apollo: The Race to the Moon by Charles Murray and Catherine Cox. I took this book to John Aaron's induction to the Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame last fall. John Aaron, Gene Kranz, and Jerry Bostick signed it at that event. Later I sent it to Chris Kraft, Glynn Lunney, and Milton Winder. Still later I sent it to Charles and Catherine, the two authors, and they signed it. Then I sent it to Charlie Duke and ask him to sign it and add "APOLLO 11 CAPCOM. We Copy You On The Ground Eagle".With so many Mission Control people at this event I was hoping to add many more signatures to this book. I enjoy reading about Mission Control as much as I do the actual flights. As it has already been posted, I checked with the museum and the individual tickets are sold out. Bummer. I actually have a three day weekend that weekend and it was one event that I might have been able to attend. I understand the museums policy on not wanting their guests to be bothered with autograph seekers. It would have been nice to add them to my book. This book has become one of my most treasured items in my collection. Mike Myer Humboldt KS |

The day after the Saturday night gala, Sunday afternoon, there will be a number of the VIP guests who will sign their books and (1) additional item each in the side gallery. A few of the astroanuats have agreed to participate in the Sunday meet-and-greet. I am not a liberty to say exactly which ones - the list is evolving.------------------ Jake Schultz - curator, Newport Way Air Museum (OK, it's just my home) |

I'll be there as a volunteer for the Gala, I'm not sure what I'll be assigned to do, I put myself down as a "greeter" or a "floater". It should be fun, I'm definately looking forward to this! It now looks that I'll be going back sunday also from what Jake mentioned. Tom

One correction to your post, Jake, which was corrected a couple of days ago on the MOF announcement. Should read: <<Apollo 13 Command & Service Module EECOM Flight Controller Sy Liebergot>> Dunno what an EECOM "Manager" is, but I sure do know what an EECOM Flight Controller is. ...and a good time was had by all. This was an amazing couple of days. The event Saturday night was hilighted by the main program - sound & video - of a simulated launch of the Saturn V and the introductions of the several dozen people who participated in this mission. Neil Armstrong was the first on stage - and he was greeted by a rousing standing ovation. Neil read a brief intro which paved the way for the introductions of the for flight teams (black, white, maroon, and gold) who brought the astronauts home. As each of these teams were introduced, the room (of about 1400 folks) roared in appreciation. Jim lovell, Fred Haise and TK were introduced last. Jim told a very nice story about the epic journey. He mentioned the 30th anniv (five years ago) and left an open question as to a 40th reunion five years from now! The flight controllers were VERY appreciative to be such an integral part of this event for their part in the Apollo 13 mission. A few of the small number of live aution items went for extraordinary prices. A beta cloth Apollo 13 fabric flown on the mission and signed by Jim went for $85,000. An Earthrise print, which Bill Anders agreed to inscribe right on the spot to the winner went for - hold on to your hats... $21,000! One more piece was a photo of the entire group of VIPs, taken earlier that night with a mat signed by ALL of the VIP's which went for $35,000! There was money in the room. The whole event raised 1.9 million dollars for education programs at the Museum of Flight. On Sunday, folks waited in very reasonable lines to meet Fred Haise, Jack Lousma, Walt Cunningham, Sy Liebergot, Nancy Conrad, and a number of other wonderful book authors. I was fortunate to escort and transport a good number of these folks around for the weekend. Such an opportunity is not taken lightly and I am VERY gratefull to share in thier company.... Good stuff........! ------------------ Jake Schultz - curator, Newport Way Air Museum (OK, it's just my home) |

Wow, what a great gathering! As a sidenote it is neat that Joe Spano and Chris Ellis (seen in the group photo), actors who had roles in "From the Earth to the Moon" and Apollo 13 were there.Patrick | |
