Calling all collectors in the UK.It does not get much bigger than this. Neil Armstrong, Tatton Park, Cheshire on 26 September 2003. This is a business convention and tickets are £250 plus VAT (for our US friends that is an extra 17½ per cent) or £2,500 plus VAT for a table of 10. Anyone fancy a table? The possibility of an autograph is probably between nil and absolutely no chance but we can dream for a few weeks. I suspect we would be very lucky to even get a word with him. Security is apparently going to be very tight and from what I have been told only a special few will get close. Anyone still fancy a table? Link follows for those who want more information. http://www.nw-bc.co.uk/index.cfm?itemid=739 Anyone still fancy a table????? Best wishes Rob Wood [This message has been edited by Robonaut (edited July 02, 2003).] |

Hi Rob,We can dream indeed! As you say the chances of speaking to him are remote and an autograph less so! When he attended the Yorkshire Business Conference in 1999 he signed nothing, even I understand turning down offers to sign for some very wealthy businessmen who were prepared to give a large sum to charity for him to do so. I only have that on hearsay however so can't back it up. I know the person who was Neil's assistant for the whole of his visit having collected him from the airport, accompanied him to various functions and generally spent a lot of time with him. He asked for an autograph at the end of the visit and Neil politely declined to do so. The items he was carrying around for me on the off chance he could get Neil to sign them remained in the bag! I nearly got to meet Neil but missed him by 10 minutes !!!!. Did see his place card on the table for the gala dinner however!! You never know however..... Steve |

Hi Rob,I would pay the £250.00 + VAT to get a seat..it would be interesting to hear Mr Armstrong speak. I would like to know if Neil talks about the moon mission in the lectures he gives. If not and your not the director of a big company...well ??? Steve Proctor mentions even those who are responsible for Chauffering, and looking after Mr Armstrong at events such as this are politely refused autographs. I understand his reasons for feeling exploited in the past..and its everyones right ..not to sign but what a pity. one thing thou.... I wonder how anyone can get thru life without signing cheques for everyday items,..and how does anyone get thru life without signing a THING !!!! just a thought. Regards, Andrew |

.. my brother has had the opportunity to hear Neil speak on numerous occasions, as he has business dealings with him.. and I am told that he speaks in very technical, engineer speak.. in other words, dry. |

Yes, at the Yorkshire conference I heard that one ot two people considered his talk 'dry'!You could always go along to listen to Mikhail Gorbachev or Sven Goran Erikson! Steve |

I had a small spaceflight stand at Yorkshire Business Convention when Neil attended there.Overall, he did not sign BUT he did sign one young lady's - I have a image of him doing so - as we were both there at the time ! He inspected Thrust II that day as well (another image I have) He also signed the guestbook for a major Gas company - one of the main sponsors there. His lecture ? Many slides under Powerpoint and he initially had a lot of trouble doing the sequence. Nothing new in it ,very monotone - no excitement . But,then , he has probably done this hundreds of times now ! He's usually chaperoned around by the organisers (as I expect he will be this time) and chances getting close are zilch. The young lady - like me - were around the evening before lecture when he did a dry run. Phill UK |

Phill,I guess he also signed the registration card at his hotel ! You mentioning Thrust II reminded me that whilst I was busy 'missing' Neil I did bump into the Thrust team boss Richard Noble and had a brief chat. Nice chap! Steve |

Hi,I met Richard Noble at Starchaser...he visited us to give us a lecture on how to raise capital, ...as he too had to fund his quest to build SSC. He is a nice man. I enjoyed listening to his talk. As for Phill`s post that is the first I have heard of Neil Armstrong signing anything recently... I suppose that there must be everyday things that he has too sign... Regards, Andrew |
