I thought members might be interested in the latest checklist on the Space Unit website. Extensive research has gone into the list and I think most members will find new information, not to mention a few surprises, in the list. This list attempts to sort out the extremely contradictory information available from other sources. More detailed articles will eventually appear in Astrophile. See http://stargate.1usa.com/stamps/checklists/mercury_recovery_ships.htm

Great list Ross! Lots of new info there that I had never seen!

I would question for Mercury Redstone 4 (a suborbital flight) whether the USNS Coastal Sentry in the Indian Ocean really played a role. The Redstone could not possibly have lofted the Mercury capsule that far. Maybe Coastal Sentry just happened to be out there for other tracking duties at the time of the flight(?).

Thanks for your comments Micropooz,

With regard to the Coastal Sentry I was able to comfirm that it was part of MR-4 from a number of sources including the NASA technical report for the mission (the two NASA tracking ships are about the only ships actually named in NASA reports). More than one source also put it in the Indian Ocean. Maybe it was using the mission as a trial run for MA-6.

Ross.
