Another collector and I have discussed the notion that the USS Boxer (the intended recovery ship for Gemini 8) may have printed up some Captain's Cachets in anticipation of the recovery. As you all probably know, Gemini 8 had to do a contingency re-entry and was picked up by the Leonard Mason.

So, where would these Boxer Captain's Covers be, if they exist? Looking in Ray Cartier's Prime Recovery Ship Handbook, there is a silver thermographed cachet similar to the Beck rubber stamped cachet, origin unknown, and postmarked on the Boxer the day that the Mason picked up Gemini 8. The only examples of this cachet that I have found all have Boxer cancels. Could these be the Captain's Covers? Any thoughts out there?

All times are CT (US)
