On April 12, the 35th anniversary of the launch of STS-1, the last space shuttle external tank built for flight, ET-94 will set sail from the Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana to Los Angeles, California via barge through the Panama Canal. It is expected to arrive in California in mid-May and will move through the streets of Los Angeles on May 21, 2016.
I am thrilled to announce that I have been commissioned by the California Science Center Foundation to design the official commemorative patch for ET-94's trip home to Los Angeles. Here is a teaser for that patch:
ET-94 will be mated to a pair of solid rocket boosters and then the orbiter Endeavour will be attached in preparation to display the space shuttle in launch configuration at the new Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center that is expected to open in 2019.

The patch was revealed at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans on Monday (April 11), a day before ET-94 departed the dock for Los Angeles.
Tim presented California Science Center president Jeff Rudolph with the first of the patches produced:
