On the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, the Apollo crew wore the Beta cloth crew patch but the Soviets wore embroidered patches.

Does anyone know if the Soviet crew's patches were manufactured by the USSR or were they using AB Emblem or Lion Brothers ones?

Leonov and Kubasov wore a version of the ASTP crew patch manufactured by AB Emblem on their flight-suits during the mission. Identical patches were also worn by the American crew on other items of clothing after the flight.

Examples of this patch can be identified by the gaps between the red and blue blocks (containing two and three stars respectively, representing the two crews) and the border of the patch, which are not present in the common version.

The other patches worn by the Russian crew were of Soviet manufacture.

The Soviet pentagonal patch was ordered in the USSR either by Zvezda or the Gagarin Cosmonaut training Centre and even before the Working group number 0 (Public relations) was created between NASA and Interkosmos Council of the Soviet Academy of Sciences.

Vladimir Denissenko - Interkosmos stuff was an only member of this grout from the Soviet side.

Just now he is trying to find out with Vladimir Shatalov the then head of the Cosmonaut Training Centre the origins of this patch.I'm in contact with him and will inform you about the result...
