Do any of you recall the mail-in offer that Tang had back in the late 70s or 80s for a set of early space shuttle patches?

It was one of the things that started me off on collecting patches, and I'm trying to recall the details. If anyone recalls or even has a scan of the offer (you never know - some of you guys may have been inspired by it as well!) please let me know here.

That's my story, too! I had an uncle who worked for General Foods — the maker of Tang and got those set of patches for Christmas or birthday or something. They were my first space patches, too.

I've gone through lots of collections since then, but I've always kept those patches. I still drink Tang sometimes, too. (If you have access to a Mexican grocery store, look for the Mango Tang. It's awesome.)

Tang did an offer of Apollo patches (Lion Brothers versions) in 1976/7, as noted on my website. There's a scan there of a rather grimy example of the promotional sheet itself.

I'd be interested to know if they did a shuttle patch offer in the 80s whether the patches were AB or LB versions.

That's the offer I am speaking of. It included Apollo 7 through Apollo-Soyuz. All very finely made patches. They also had an Apollo 11 folder with a single patch in it. It was also a very nice patch; much better than the one provided in this set.

They definitely did an early shuttle offer too. I'm trying to find the actual flyer. I may even still have it myself.

Which manufacturer supplied patches for the Tang Mail In Offer?

Editor's note: Threads merged.

They were AB Emblem. At least the Apollo 11 ones anyway. But they were mailed out in a special presentation as well. Mine is still in the original envelope.

I cant speak for the shuttle offers, but the Apollo is A-B as the previous post says. Here's a break down of the contents.

That would seem to only apply to the Apollo 11 standalone offer.

As noted above, there was another Tang offer with multiple Apollo patches provided by Lion Brothers.

There is also, what appears to be, an Apollo 11 and 12 mailaway that sourced Lion Brothers patches.

All times are CT (US)
