I know that Lion Brothers made the 4-inch patches but did they make any 8-inch Apollo Program patches? I won a large patch on eBay (3919898452) and the seller did have about eight Lion Brothers patches that he sold, but he also had this large patch. I would be thankful for any information that anyone would have. |

I looked at the picture of your patch and it appears to have exposed threads on the back. If so, it is from or near the Apollo era.The coating on the back of AB Emblem mission patches began about 1976, so any without the coating had to be made before then. I believe this patch was made by AB Emblem since the patch is offered by them today in 3 and 8 inch sizes. I could be wrong, but I am not aware of any Lion Bros. version of this Apollo program patch. This program patch was "official" for a while, but NASA quit using it around 1967 or 68 — a least that is what I was told by a patch collector. Furthermore, there was a 2.5 and perhaps a 4-inch version made at one time. I have a 1968 photo of Bill Anders wearing a jacket with what seems to be a 4-inch version of the patch. |

I did find another 8" Lion Brothers patch, a Skylab project patch. The indicators that this is a Lion Brothers patch, to me, are the way the engine bell is colored and the pattern and color of thread exposed on the back.
