Great!! Why do they not a STS-1 to 4 shuttle color version? |

They're waaaaaaaaaay ahead of ya. The former Blue Box Toys produced a U-2 driver many years ago, and it has since become one of the priciest of boxed figures on the aftermarket. This new release is most welcome, and appears to be an improvement on what was already an outstanding 1/6th figure. |

Of course, color alone doesn't make an SR-71 or U-2 pressure suit into a suit worn by the early shuttle crews. As Dennis Jenkins writes in "Dressing for Altitude": Contrary to most reports, the dozen S1030As were not "modifications" of Air Force S1030 suits but were new suits fabricated expressly for the space shuttle program. They were derivatives of the S1030 design, using most of the same hardware and manufacturing techniques. However, although the softgoods were based on S1030 experience, they were necessarily different to support the addition of the AGS and biomedical instrumentation port and to increase the proof-pressure requirements. Incidentally, the earlier DAM Toys U-2 figure has a discussion topic here, too. |

So which is the correct SR-71 suit? I am planning to present the world speed record SR-71 pilot, Ret. Maj. General Eldon Joersz, with one of these (record 2193 mph set in 1976). Initially I ordered the U-2 pilot thinking the suits were the yellow. Should the suit be white? This version is new to me. I can't ask Al without giving away my surprise for him. |

I answered my own question; both are correct. Google "SR-71 Pilot Pressure Suits". |

I saw both suits also. Not sure if one is an earlier version or if both were used concurrently. I have the orange suit on pre-order. |

Dwight, if you find the "White" version let me know. I suppose I'll have to pre-order that version also. Thanks |

If nothing else, the orange-suited figure is going to be labeled on the box as a U-2 pilot, so if you want one identified as SR-71, then the white suit will be the way to go (even though the same suit was used for both programs). |

The white suits were used at the start of SR-71 operations. There was a transition period with a few blue and brown suits. Finally the gold suits took over and were used until the end.A publicity picture of Joersz and Morgan here (better quality here) shows them in white suits but with black boots. |

How come these folks don't take on the astronaut suits also? I think the complexity would almost parallel these U-2/SR-71 pressure suits. I just finished putting together the 2011 Dragon Apollo Astronaut and the Gene Cernan version. Gene Cernan is a much higher quality product and the Dragon Astronaut was a nightmare to put together and clean up. I admire the modification efforts of other cS readers to make it more authentic. I've also got Buck and Buzz still in the box but question whether I want to mess with them after reading previous comments and messing with the 2011 astronaut. Anyway, Damtoys — make us some astronauts! |

It's not that they can't. Far from it. Our niche interest doesn't sell in the 1/6th world anywhere like the standard, no-risk fare of US SOF community operators. Simple as that. DAM are to be commended for their efforts in trying to introduce some originality back into the 1/6th world, and if these sell well, I'm sure astronauts won't be too far behind.

Super, good answer. Thanks for the quick response. Anyone have any estimate of the retail price on either of these? Thanks again. |

I pre-ordered the first figure in this series, the U-2 pilot, from monkeydepot.com for $159. I assume these will be priced similarly. |

Lots of anniversaries coming up in 2016 (50 years in service, 40 years air speed record, 20 years retirement). Here's a Lockheed SR-71 at Pima Air museum in Arizona with pilot/ejection seat display: |

The early white suits, David Clark S901, were worn by NASA crews but the last crew wore the golden/yellow S1030. |

Has anyone tried to order one of these? I did go to the website, but didn't find an order page. Does anyone have any experience with purchasing from them? |

I believe these are sold through retailers like Hobby Galaxy (as mentioned above) rather than from DAM Toys directly. |

Ordered from Hobby Galaxy. No experience with them, though (not too fond of the partial nonrefundable advanced payment but we'll see). |

Thanks Robert. I ordered the test pilot from Hobby Craft today. It would be great if they did the shuttle's ACES suits! |

Those two models are available through eBay (Hong Kong). So within a month or so, they should be available in the U.S. if they follow the same trend as the Dragon Lady Pilot model (the one-month difference was explained to me by Hobby Galaxy). |

Dropped an email to Hobby Galaxy. The delay in availability is usually 1-2 months once the models are released in Asia. Hobby-Galaxy said that the models are on their way and they hope to have them next month. |

I ordered both figures from Monkey Depot, and received them back on Monday, 9 January. Very impressed, as I was with the U-2 pilot. |

I received and paid an invoice from Hobby Galaxy about two weeks ago for the Damtoys SR-71 Blackbird Test Pilot. Still no word on shipping. Has anyone been shipped so far from Hobby Galaxy? |

Same situation here. Amount paid, no news regarding shipping.Edit: emailed Hobby Galaxy. Their reply: "No problem on your side or on us. We are still waiting for the supplier to send us the shipment. It is said to be at the port but held up by the customs." |

Received mine from Hobby Galaxy today (Monday). I had Michael Key recreate the shoulder patch showing the name of the world speed record holder in the SR-71, then Capt. Eldon Joersz. I have extras. If anyone would like an Eldon Joersz patch with American flag, e-mail me. While supplies last. |

Mine arrived today, April 13.Has anyone had their package inspected by U.S. Customs and Border Protection before being shipped out? It took them one week to inspect the package. I was wondering if this was a new policy or a one time thing. It was a first for me. |
