Well.. I've officially started collecting... models, more specifically satellite and non-manned spacecraft. Years ago I found dozens of unbelievable models for a collector who promised he'd never sell them, or if he did he'd give me first shot. I saw the collection sell through Superior around 2003, it had the Vanguard 1, a few early space stations and a whole bunch of other beautiful models. He said he lost my number... meh.Anyhoo, one of the first models I found was an OGO-B, at the time I thought it was such a simple model I wasn't very impressed as a model maker. Wind tunnel models will always impress me they are true works of art and hard to reproduce. The OGO-B however was pretty easy to copy. I made it out of solid brass and had it chromed and it was slick! About a month ago one came up on eBay, this time in an acrylic display case and in perfect condition. I broke down and got it. Technically it's my second. I found a tiny Pioneer 7 that has super fine line graphics, blue solar panels and is in good shape, but no base. A teacher of mine has the full scale Vanguard 1 and I've built five full scale Sputnik 1's, one is in the Armstrong Museum. Eventually I'll build another Sputnik, it's real easy to build. once I have all the parts it assembles in about a day, I have a painting of Voyager over Jupiter by Paul Hudson, an original, any other Hudson fans out there or know how to contact him? So I'm looking for Voyager, VELA, IRAS, Mariners, etc., no manned except ISS, especially early ISS models. If it's okay, could members post pics of their satellites, I'd like to see the quality level out there. I also look for wind tunnel models, if you have one I'd like to see it. I used to have a XB-70, B-1 and an F-104, but had to sell them before being guilted to death by my wife (ex). |

No one has a model they'd like to show? A new member of my aerospace CAD modeling group wants to build a Viking Lander, I'm sure someone must have one in their collection. Vela or an aluminum IRAS are two I'm looking for or at least pics, thanks. |

Well, its a good time to be a model builder for unmanned stuff with Aoshima increasing the kit selection for several of the Japanese probes of recent memory. Hasegawa is also jumping in as this year they are doing a kit of the Voyager space probe in 1/48 scale.Realspace Models has done kits of a few of the JPL probes over the years and there are paper models of some of these probes as well. And, any collection of unmanned spacecraft and probes would not be complete without a model of the USAF X-37B (4D Vision is doing a 1/50 3D puzzle of it with an opening payload bay and Dragon has a pre-built pre-painted diecast of it already). |

I have built that Viking model from Realspace a few times. Very nice kit, only you need a loupes for the wires. |

Here are some images of a Teal Ruby, APF 888 model in 1/15th scale, it's missing the solar panels and scope shield. The last images are of Krafft Ehricke spacecraft models. |
