As you say, the resemblance is too strong to be a coincidence, but I'm pretty sure Dragon is in the clear re: licensing so long as they don't attach Armstrong's name (or an actual image of him) to the product or packaging. I'm no lawyer, though.

Looks like there are several on eBay but it's not clear if it's some kind of pre-order.

Mine has been shipped. I have just received the shipping note with the tracking number, Dragon must have released it earlier than August.

Are you planning to post a picture of the real model? I'm not interested in it (I don't find Armstrong to be that attractive!), just curious as to what it looks like.

I managed to snap a few photos of Dragon's new Apollo 11 Astronaut (2011). I am very pleased with this model and as you can see from the photos below, all the equipment seems to be there including the camera, watch, etc.

The resemblance to Neil Armstrong I think they are still a bit far off so Chris it should not worry you if it finds a place in your home.

Excuse my photography, okay!

Thanks for the pictures! You have saved me $150 (give or take). I'll stick to rockets and planes.

With a bit of luck, it looks better once outside the box!

Do you have to stuff the suit with something? It looks "flat".

This should be another future diorama project, so for now it will sit in the box.

Yes, you are right it needs some stuffing but that will be done later on.

Thanks for the photos! They confirm that other than the head sculpt, this version is essentially identical to the original two versions that were released.

I modified "Buck" to represent Wally Schirra walking to the LC 34 elevator, with IVA gloves and boots, no LEVA, life preserver, added suit details and a cooling unit.

My "Buzz" is modified to represent Al Bean, with his name tape and patch, and I added his cuff checklist, open to a certain, um, cheeky photo that the backup crew added to it.

No unfortunately not, it does have a gold trimming around the outer helmet as you can see in the photo but that's it.

That is very pity! The gold mirror layer give just that extra accurate detail. I do not understand why they take this detail take over?

If I see this little YouTube clip after 18 seconds, I see a mirror visor? Are there two versions than?

I think you are very right, this model would have looked much better with a gold mirror finished visor, but unfortunately I think that Dragon does not look over cS to see our demands.

Yes, Dragon does take note of our demands on cS.
Keep up the good work.

Yes it is there, the gold visor slides in the outer helmet. So with better inspection I found it, so guys, yes, it was my mistake.

Judging by the video, it also look like the microphone booms are on the Snoopy cap. On the other two versions, the Snoopy cap is just a cowl.

I've been thinking of adding some detail to the cap, I just haven't had the time. Of course, I still have the backpacks in pieces.

Yes, it is all there.

With better inspection it seems that all of the items shown on that video clip are all there in this package so I think that it is pretty detailed.

All it needs is the Armstrong name tag on the front chest but of course for obvious reasons it's not included.

Possible explanations:
  1. It hasn't been released in the US yet.
  2. It's expensive.
  3. It's a doll.
(just teasing).

I received a review sample of the new Apollo astronaut from Dragon last week. I haven't opened it yet, but plan to do a side-by-side photo shoot with their older Buzz figure to share on collectSPACE. Plan to take the pics this weekend...

Got one yesterday at a hobby shop in Colorado.

By the way it's not a doll... it's an action figure!
