As mentioned in another post, I had Cece Bibby paint "Gumball 7" on the capsule of my modified bubblegum machine. The piece started out life as a commercial grade bubblegum machine acquired from Wizzards of the Coast. I added a one foot extension to the tube, painted it to resmble a Redstone rocket, and scratch built a simplified escape tower. I am almost done with the fins. Cece was a joy to meet. It was the highlight of the show for me as far as signatures go... Thanks Cece...! ------------------ Jake Schultz - curator, Newport Way Air Museum (OK, it's just my home) [This message has been edited by collectSPACE Admin (edited September 09, 2004).] |

Those photos are just precious, Jake. I also found Cece an extremely nice person and fascinating to meet. I would say the same for two of the other marvelous women from that remarkable group--Dee O'Hara and "The Astronauts' Den Mother," Lola Morrow. Having the priviledge of spending time with these ladies was probably the highest highlight for me of an absolutely incredible weekend.------------------ Don |

Awesome Jake! What a great piece. Your collection looks like it's a fun one, with pieces like this. Very cool.Cece was absolutely terrific...fun to sorta flirt with too! Hope she knows how much we all appreciated her sparkle. One of the most memorable and priceless moments of the show occured at Friday's reception, when she and Scott Carpenter reunited after 40 years. Big smile, small tears with that one, for sure. Very special moment. Thanks, you two... Rover kosb |

Jake - with this item you also obtained Cece's first ever autograph at a public signing event... you were first in line on the first day. Great to see where it ended up - thanks!FF |

Thanks FF.... yes it's pretty cool to have her first signature (at a public signing) - one she really seemed to get a kick out of.Also, I had some good help with turning the base of the escape tower on this "model" from a co-worker (Steve) of mine. He builds models for Boeing as a full-time profession and it's great to work on projects together. ------------------ Jake Schultz - curator, Newport Way Air Museum (OK, it's just my home) |
