As a follow up to its replica Apollo 11 lunar sample return bag, Puntzi has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for a larger bag based on the Apollo 15 lunar sample decontamination bag.

The bag costs $122 each and the campaign has already met its $500 goal. The project closes on Aug. 27, 2020 at 10:49 a.m. EDT.

There was great care to preserve the lunar samples until they could be properly unpacked by scientist. However the Decontamination Bag was designed to protect the crew from the lunar dust that was not cleaned off the Apollo Lunar Sample Return Container (ALSRC), or "Rock Box." On the return trip in zero gravity, the abrasive lunar regolith could float in the Command Module and risk getting in the eyes and lungs of the crew. Several versions of this bag were manufactured for each Apollo mission from 11 to 17, with different sizes and strap configurations.

Your Apollo Decontamination Bag

My goal in creating this bag was to stay true to size, shape, stitching, while keeping in mind function on earth and our non NASA sized budgets. This bag is double layered heavy weight nylon making it feel rugged and durable. I chose a sturdy #8 YKK zipper that opens from both ends for easy access. The airtight zipper was my first choice, but was cost prohibitive. Authentic lettering and serial number feels like you are holding the flown bag.

  • Size: 17.5" x 10.25" x 7.5" (44.5cm x 26cm x 19.1)
  • Double layer 400D nylon
  • #8 YKK zipper
  • Carry handle and shoulder strap
  • Authentic stamped lettering
If you are not carrying moon rocks, we added features for use on earth that include a carry handle and removable shoulder strap. This bag is set for daily carry, travel or stashing valuable space objects.

I have Puntzi's Apollo 11 contingency sample bag replica, and it is excellent. His quality and workmanship are outstanding.

I look forward to this one (maybe even more, because this one is even more functional).
