A former contractor at NASA Johnson Space Center is facing federal charges in Houston on allegations he took off with $15,000 in flight jackets over a 15-year stretch, reports the Houston Chronicle. The criminal information filed Monday in federal court states that sometime between Jan. 1, 2004 and March 8, 2019, Bradley Fink "did intentionally and knowingly embezzle, steal and convert to his own use flight jackets" that belong to NASA...If convicted, Fink faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine as well as three years of supervised release. (For now, that is the extent of the details shared in the court filing.) |

Former NASA Johnson Space Center contractor Bradley Fink was sentenced to two years of probation on Monday (Nov. 18) for stealing nearly $15,000 in flight jackets and reselling them, reports the Houston Chronicle. Bradley Fink was facing up to 10 years in prison, but because he showed remorse and was able to pay back the value of the stolen items, U.S. District Court Judge Vanessa Gilmore said she would not impose prison time or an additional fine.Fink pleaded guilty in August to the scheme, which lasted for 15 years... Between Jan. 1, 2004 and March 8, Fink stole about 60 jackets that belonged to NASA and were transported by the company he worked for at the time, according to prosecutors. He then sold the jackets for a profit on Ebay. |

Oh my goodness, I remember these being for sale on eBay at the time! This was before I realized anyone can order one from Gibson & Barnes for just a little bit more than they were going for off eBay. I never made a grab for any of them as I remember they were all tiny sizes, as astronauts are often small-ish people. But 60 jackets over 15 years? I was in the military and that's an insanely slow theft rate compared to what I watched government property vanish left and right otherwise. I'm really surprised anyone caught that at all over such a long timeframe. |

Walk into work without a jacket, leave work wearing a jacket. Just doesn’t get cold enough in Houston I guess is why it took 15 years to steal 60 jackets. |
