Recently the Grumman identification/name-plate from LM-5 (Eagle) went up for auction as part of the Armstrong Family's collection.Does any cS'er know exactly where on the lunar module this plate was mounted? I have looked at pictures and diagrams of the interior and cannot determine where it might have been located. Also, was there a similar nameplate on the CM (Columbia)? If so, where was it mounted. |

The LM nameplate was located on the forward-facing surface of the ascent engine cover. For the CM, the nameplate was mounted on the inward-facing surface of the right rendezvous window scoop. |

Both ID plate locations are mentioned on this earlier thread. |

It is my understanding that the identification plate that was auctioned was not mounted in the lunar module (Eagle). There was a mounted plate, as identified by John (space1), but the one that was sold was one of three that were stowed aboard the lunar module as a memento. Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins were each presented one by Grumman post-flight. |

Robert is correct - the souvenir id plates were stowed either in PPKs or OFKs and never mounted. Also, there's at least one example out there of an additional flown souvenir id plate beyond the three crew examples per mission. |

Robert and spaced out, thank you for pointing out that the presentation ID plates were not actually mounted in the vehicles. |
