Had an opportunity last night (Monday night, Sept. 24) to try on a clamshell launch and entry helmet, the kind used between STS-6 and 51L (and also used for training post-Challenger).

With the visor down, it fogged up pretty quickly — so my question is, is there an O2 line hookup or some other way to prevent such fogging? Dang, those things are pretty tight!

Quoting Dennis Gilliam (cS: DG27) from an earlier thread:
The LEH was basically an oxygen helmet, not a pressure helmet. It provided oxygen to the face cavity which was separated from the rest of the helmet by a light weight rubber face seal. The remainder of the helmet (and the head) was unpressurized.
And to quote Dennis Jenkins from "Dressing For Altitude":
The integrated oxygen breathing and bump-protection helmet provided a breathing space using a face seal instead of using a conventional oronasal mask. The aft portion of the helmet was open to ambient air.

... Each orbiter was equipped with eight oxygen outlets (four on the flight deck and four on the middeck) that supplied 100-psi for the LEH regulators and AGS.

All times are CT (US)
