The Associazione per la Divulgazione Astronomica e Astronautica (ADAA) in Milan, Italy has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the creation of its first satellite. We are building a CubeSat pico-satellite that will fly into space over the next couple of years. It is called AlSat#1, its official acronym is ADAA Laboratory Satellite, but in reality it is linked to our special and exceptional Tutor, our friend Cap. Al Worden, Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot. As a first step, they are fundraising to test their design on a balloon flight into the stratosphere. Thanks to the funds raised with this crowdfunding, we could test our satellite by launching it into the stratosphere with a sounding balloon that we hope will reach 40 km. The full instrumentation and materials will be tested in an extreme environment, similar to the one AlSat#1 will find when in orbit. The collected data will allow us to prepare at the best the AlSat#1 mission into space. |

I think this is a brilliant idea. I'll be contributing when I get home!!Come on collectSPACE - why don't we all contribute at least £2 each? I've just pledged €7. Remember - every pound helps... |
