One Giant Leap is creating a temporary exhibit at the Patriots Hall of Fame at Gillette Stadium in December that will run and tie in with the 2016 National Hockey League (NHL) Winter Classic.I am looking for help in many ways. If you know of items that flew in space and are hockey related, please send me a link or contact person. If you know of any photos, videos or astronauts/cosmonauts who flew items, please let me know. We are also looking for sponsors and donors to help with the cost of this exhibit. So if you want to help or know someone who might please feel free to spread the word. So far, I need some help with the NHL to find what they have (a few pucks). I am trying to work with the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on getting some items but I could use some help with any colleges, teams that you might know that might have items. Thank you for all your support! |

I had worked extensively with Bob Thirsk, when I was a Director at the Calgary Aerospace Museum and at the CSA. When we created Spaceport Calgary exhibit in the Calgary International Airport, we had a donated Team Canada Hockey jersey that Bob wore in Space on STS-78. Also on STS-78 we flew a Boston Jersey and Stanley Cup rings onboard. If you contact the Bobby Orr Museum in Parry Sound , Ontario, Canada... they have the post-flight presentations from Bob Thirsk to Bobby Orr. |

It's not hockey related, but I have a shuttle flown Canadian flag that could be loaned out if you're interested. |

I remember back in 2004 when our Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup, it toured the state and ended up at Kennedy Space Center. It was photographed with Discovery. I found this photo: |

Thanks for the help so far. I have scheduled to appear a Predators jersey, a Bruins Stanley Cup flag, and a special hockey puck for goalies.I am still hoping to connect with the NHL and the Hockey Hall of fame to help with a few more items. So if anyone has anyway to connect with them plus any astronaut or museum that might be willing lend the items out (we are going through the Patriots Hall of Fame Museum) please help us out. I am also hoping to have a special guest astronaut to appear as well. |

I have no idea how to get in touch with him, but Booby Orr's 1970 and 1972 championship rings were flown into space by Robert Thirsk. |

If anyone wants to make a $500 donation to One Giant Leap to help with this exhibit you will receive a flown New England Patriots Super Bowl decal, plus a picture COA and then later on a COA from the man who brought up the decal and a tax deduction letter. Please email me and I will send a scan.So far, we have some really neat items coming from all over the USA, Canada and even Russia for this exhibit. It has been a blast getting this stuff to borrow. |

From The Hall at Patriot Place presented by Raytheon on Facebook: With the Winter Classic coming to Gillette, The Hall is now showing a Hockey in Space display with items that have flown with astronauts in space. We will have them on display until mid-January.

This is the last full day the exhibit will be on display and then the items go back to their owners. I received some positive feedback from the museum and overheard some patrons commenting on how cool the items were. One volunteer was so excited to meet a real astronaut after standing near the display for hours!I learned a lot and just sent an email to some people about how someone (not me) could create a flown in space football edition that could be displayed down in Houston next year as Super Bowl 51 will be played there. Our next exhibit will occur in April — a one day only exhibit of items that have to do with EVA and it will be at the New England Air Museum in Connecticut and the Space Day will be attended by a guy who did the first shuttle EVA plus a Hubble repair mission. We are looking for ideas and items so please think of us. Thank you. |
