Photo KSC-68P-127 shows the S-IVB stage for Apollo 7 as it was unloaded from the Super Guppy transport aircraft on the Skid Strip at Cape Canaveral.In September 1965 on a certification flight of the Super Guppy over the Mojave Desert, there was a major structural failure during a high-speed dive test. Despite the damage, the pilots did land the aircraft safely at Edwards Air Force Base. A link to a first-hand account of the flight from one of the pilots can be found here. | |
