I've decided to post this outside the existing thread on general NASA flight suits and such because this photo shows so many odd things...

Take a good look at the suits and insignia in this shot (sadly, much of them aren't in focus):

Note the woman to the left, appears to be a doctor. She's wearing a jacket with a NASA patch but a Russian flag on the shoulder.

And what are the roles for the people in blue flight suits to the right background? None are wearing any normal NASA wings for astronauts, are support people wearing flight suits now for events like this?

I wish I could read some of those nameplates...

NASA flight surgeons and medical staff have been wearing blue flight suits and jackets for years — dating back into the shuttle-era. Nothing very new about that...

Just a random example: Here is NASA flight surgeon Terry Taddeo at the Soyuz TMA-3 landing in 2004 dressed similarly.

The flight docs were garbed in blue at space shuttle crew walkouts, too.

I'd never seen this before, thanks for the info.

Still, what's going on with the woman on the left, with NASA patches for a Russian flag? Would there be Russian people attached to NASA?

Yes, NASA has employees who are Russians, including members of the Soyuz recovery team (the woman pictured is a nurse) and translators.

All times are CT (US)
