Were there two Apollo command module tunnel hatches, i.e. the forward tunnel hatch with docking ring and probe assembly (I can find info on this) and a inner crew compartment aft tunnel hatch? I can find a photo of Mike Collins in a trainer reaching up to a hatch, but no drawings of that hatch so close to the crew compartment. |

One forward hatch under the probe assembly (source). |

There was only a single forward hatch, at the 'top' of the tunnel that linked to the LM. Check out the diagram at the "080:13:13" time line. |

If you were to be sitting on the center couch of the Apollo CM looking at the main control panel, what side would the tunnel hatch actuator handle be on? |

The handle would be on the left side, going straight up, with the grip at the top. (Based on a quick look at a photo.) |

Is this right? The more I look at diagrams, it looks to me as if the actuator handle is on the right and pointing down? Can cS members weigh in on this, it's driving crazy trying to figure this one out! |

I have confirmed it again looking at photos and engineering drawings. |

I have just obtained one of these hatches in mint condition, in case you are looking for some more details or photos. |
