I did try it, and it was awesome!
It would be better with a smaller section of tile, as the one I have only heats up the small area that the flame touches, roughly 2x2 inches. So I got to get some smaller chunks somewhere...

I picked this item up a while back pretty cheap. I thought it was interesting as I have always been fascinated by the Buran shuttle.
I had no idea if it was authentic at the time, but I remember it was cheap so I figured it was worth the risk. Does anyone know about these? Are they real fragments of the Buran tiles?

Yes and no. They are almost certainly from the Buran program since there were several incomplete shuttles which an abundance of tiles have been stripped from over the years.
It's unlikely from the original Buran though since the actual flown Buran was kept in storage safe from dismemberment (until its storage building collapse burying it under debris, where it still lies).

I have been seaching for tile piece some time now. It would be perfect tool for teaching physics.

See, I'm not sure as I see they have sold online with the claim they are flown. I have no idea though.
