I just won a packet of the shuttle-flown (LDEF) tomato seeds. I'm trying to figure out what to do with them display-wise. Does anyone else have these seeds, and what did you do with them? I'm debating with myself the idea of opening the packet. This will of course ruin the collectability and integrity of the pack, but since I believe it is the seeds and not the packaging that is the flown item, this seems to make some kind of sense to me. I'd like to hear your thoughts about this. Also, I understand that these seeds will no longer grow plants. No glowing three-headed tomatoes from them? Is this true? Thanks! |

I've seen these packs matted with a photo of the LDEF in space. Some of the seeds may still be viable, but I wouldn't eat them. Sally Ride mentioned that she was at a school where they were growing all the different seeds in the experiment pack and the teacher said that they tasted them all as part of the experiment! Dr. Ride was aghast. |

I've used clear photo-mounts (one each corner) on a backgrounder A4 sheet (photo/text etc) when I display these at space exhibitions .I'm displaying several of these at a space exhibition lecture in UK I'm doing in November as it happens - along with other flown seeds. | |
