The first few times I went to Florida I stayed in the Riverside Inn, which is right across the street from that rocket (and Titusville High School). I actually never went over to examine it, but I remember it was in poor weathered condition; in need of a paint job.

Actually, guys, the old rocket on display off U.S. 1 next to Titusville's Chamber of Commerce and the high school isn't a Titan II rocket at all! In fact, it's an old Titan 1 ICBM that the Air Force tested before the "II" version came on line during the early 1960s. Efforts were underway by the city of Titusville, in which my company was in support with, to help "save" the badly-decaying space vehicle with needed donations for a much-needed restoration. Unfortunately, such campaign efforts were never that much successful.

All times are CT (US)
