Winco Intl. has produced a medallion commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 17 mission. This official Apollo 17 limited edition medallion is minted with Apollo command module parts that flew to the moon. Produced in celebration of the 45th anniversary of Apollo 17, this medallion also remembers Gene Cernan, Apollo 17 commander (1934-2017), Ron Evans, command module pilot (1933-199) and is also a tribute to Harrison Schmitt, lunar module pilot and scientist. These medallions are presented in a collectible and informative package that also features a formal certificate of authenticity. The COA confirms each medallion includes Apollo space flown parts and also confirms this low limited edition of 2,500 pieces.
The medallion will be available from Winco product retailers in November. |

The original post here refers to a "Series 1" medallion with a black and yellow outer rim but the Space Store are selling a "Series 2" with a blue rim. Anyone seen the first one yet? |

Limited to 100? Would there be any difference between the two except for the blue rim? |

The "limited to 100" statement is misleading and actually refers to The Space Store only having 100 to sell. The medallion itself is limited to 5,000 or 2,500 (depending on whether you believe the copy on the packaging or the information on the Space Store listing!). |

Series 1 was limited to 2,500 pieces; Series 2 is limited to 5,000. quote: Originally posted by 328KF: Would there be any difference between the two except for the blue rim?
Series 1 was produced in antique bronze; Series 2 in antique silver. Other than that and the color border on Series 2, the two are identical. |

Robert, are you saying the yellow band is 2,500? And the blue band is 5,000? Also is the yellow band being sold anywhere? Can't seem to find it. Just ordered the blue band, always nice to start the new year with some new medallions. |

The "yellow band" (the yellow is just a graphical stand in for the antique bronze metal) is Series 1; the "blue band" is Series 2.To my knowledge, the Series 1 medallions have not been offered for sale. As an official NASA medallion, Winco's distribution also includes NASA organizations and contractors for distribution to their employees. |

If that's the case then usually the bronze is an employee only medal and the silver for everyone else. Guess we will have to wait and see. |

From Andy Boston at Winco: Neither the Series 1 or Series 2 medallions have been released yet due to printing issues with the backer cards that accompany both. When the cards are ready, both series of medallions will be shipped to Winco's clients. Most clients have only ordered Series 1 since originally the plan was to follow up with Series 2 only after they had time to sell Series 1. Winco's supply of the Series 1 medallion sold out almost immediately upon being offered to clients. The entire production run of 2,500 Series 1 medallions will ship as soon as the cards' printing issues are remedied. |

Saw that Tim. And also the "series one" (yellow) reverse a picture, not just metal ala the Apollo 11 45th anniversary. |

The color image is just a mockup; the actual reverse of both series' medallions is engraved metal. |

Thanks Robert! It did seem odd to have two different styles. Ordered both, so hopefully have them soon. |

Neil, just got my Series 2 medallion today, really like the look and "3D" effect on the reverse. A nice addition to the growing collection. |

Both versions of the medallion have arrived at our Kollection. I always get two of each of the medallions so both sides can be displayed. Very nice and well done as always with a Winco product. Both displays have a bit of Gene in them with his signatures on the models.
