Just watched "The Dish" last night. The Dish is a 2000 Australian film that tells a somewhat fictionalized story of the Parkes Observatory's role in relaying live television of man's first steps on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. Was it really that close, as it showed on the movie, to getting television pictures transmitted around the world, or was there a fair bit of artistic license used to wrack up the drama? |

This movie is my favorite.The movie is a bit of fact, a bit of fiction. Here is a website that explains a lot of what really happened. Whether it is fact or fiction, it is still a great movie. |

If anyone has a DVD player that supports PAL format (U.S. uses NTSC) I would suggest getting the Australian DVD version. It has a ton more extras than the U.S. version such as original Apollo 11 mission footage, original newscasts, stuff about the Parkes telescope, interviews, etc. |

I completely agree on the outstanding region 4 DVD extras — we spent hours enjoying the "all the bits we loved but couldn't use" with the documentries and other footage — just brilliant.Thanks for the heads up on the website Brian. — and yours kucharek (it was posted while I was writing this so I missed it first time round.) The other really good piece of work on this whole area is Hamish Lindsay's fantastic book "Tracking Apollo to the Moon" (Springer: ISBN 1-85233-212-3) which is one of the best technical history accounts I've come across. |

The Region 2 DVD of this superb movie has all those extras as well and a UK exclusive, a Sam Neill interview!Maybe somebody can help with this also (non space question)... who is the young blonde girl that goes out to the antenna? We are sure she was once in Neighbours years ago? |

Just had the chance to watch "The Dish" on television, it has been some time since I had seen this movie. Very entertaining. |
