David M. Harland has done it again! This brilliant author has captured mankind's theories on the universe from the time of Newton through the present day and into the future. He covers the physicists, astronomers and mathematicians who theorized about our place in the universe, along with the telescopes, spacecraft and other instruments they used. It is amazing that he is able to cover all of this material in a mere 188 pages. He covers such topics as red-shift, spectral classes, the big bang theory, quasars, the solar system, exoplanets... the list goes on and on!

In addition to his clear writing, Harland is also known for his expertise in choosing the best photos and diagrams to accompany his text; this book is no exception. It is lavishly illustrated with photographs of the great scientists and astronomers, pictures of their telescopes and diagrams explaining concepts and theories. He also has many beautiful images of galaxies, planets and the spacecraft used to make breathtaking astronomical discoveries.

As the follow-up to his Haynes Manuals on the Moon and Mars, this book is perfect for both children/adults who want a concise, easy to read overview of the universe as well as for experts in the field. Highly recommended!

Universe Owners' Workshop Manual
by David M. Harland

Universe Owners' Workshop Manual addresses themes in astronomy over the last few hundred years by which we came to understand the origin and evolution of the universe at large, the processes by which planetary systems form, and the chances of life being ubiquitous. Subplots and disputes between eminent figures that are merely alluded to here will be fully explored in the text.
