The Apollo Spacecraft: Evolution, Engineering, and Flight Operations by Frank O'Brien 'The Apollo Spacecraft: Evolution, Engineering, and Flight Operations' is the definitive description of the spacecraft and the technologies used for the journey to the Moon. The spacecraft that eventually landed on the Moon did not spring fully formed because of Kennedy's May 1961 challenge. 'The Apollo Spacecraft' begins by tracing its origins from 1959 when contract bids were already being prepared for a lunar spacecraft. Caught unprepared for a full lunar landing mission, von Braun and other NASA engineers recognized that the spacecraft already under development could never be reconciled with the mission architectures under consideration. Changing the mission architecture and introducing a new spacecraft, the Lunar Module, threw the development of the Apollo CSM into a lurch by requiring significant modifications to the vehicle. The resulting spacecraft, while pushing the limits of the possible, became a complex set of compromises. By tracking the spacecraft's development with its numerous fits and false starts, 'Apollo Spacecrafts' describes how the final mission design and flight operations reflected these early engineering decisions. - Springer, 1st Edition., 2015

I don't know why Springer announces titles which are due in three and half years... and I'm not sure it's relevant to post such title. |

They probably start to recognize the magic of the old communist countries five year plans. |

I wonder if this is really an announcement that the contracts have been signed to write the book. If so, the writer would be well advised to look at How Apollo Flew to The Moon by David Woods. If this book about the spacecraft can be as full of technical details but also as easily read they will have a best seller on their hands. CSPG, your posts about new books are valuable and often lead to purchases on my part. I hope you post again nearer the release date or when Amazon starts taking pre-orders. Thanks. |

In this particular case I didn't rely on Amazon (only Amazon.co.uk lists titles that are to be released at such future dates- and even not that far!) but Springer. I hesitated posting it but it's also a way for me to keep track of what is to come. In 2014 a search for space-related books is unlikely to result in this publication to top the search...that's why I find it odd that it's even mentioned on Springer's web site. |

I think Frank is behind schedule and in the absence of a reasonable estimate of the date Springer simply isn't saying.

Frank and David are very good friends and have collaborated together for many years. I don't know if David is formally participating in this book, but certainly it's a solid bet they are in communication about it.

Six years in the making. Does anyone have any info about this title, now scheduled for early 2018? |

This is the book I have had pre-ordered for the longest time now (July 2014). Currently, Amazon has it set for release on January 8. Any hope this may actually happen? |

The book is no longer listed on Springer's website and it does not appear on Praxis' website either. Amazon UK indicates February 8 as publication date...I'm not sure that the book actually exists or is planned. It's been seven years... |

A 7-year tease. Life is too short for those kind of games. |

Emailed Praxis.Maybe the folks working on the Apollo Lunar Surface Journal know something — Frank O'Brien is listed as contributor. |
