A good friend of mine works at an aviation museum and he sent me a beautiful hardcover cover copy of the new book "Celebrating 30 Years of the Space Shuttle Program." I have tried to find info on this book online and found a mention in on the government's FBO site and also NASA has an e-book version (PDF) on their site but no mention of this book on amazon or anywhere else. Is this hardcover version rare? Is it an official NASA edition? The book is absolutely beautiful. It's hard cover with a dust jacket. The actual cover of the book under the dust jacket is a nice texture with the anniversary logo embossed in silver, and the book itself is 284 pages long. I was just curious if anyone else has seen this yet? The e-version on NASA's site will give you an idea of the quality of it, but it sure looks great printed and bound. |

I was at Space Center Houston last week, and the gift shop had copies of this book on sale for $60. It's a nice coffee-table type publication, but pretty pricey. |

The PDF has a couple screwups. The STS-117 patch doesn't have Anderson's name on it and the STS-118 patch is the original STS-118 patch with Anderson's name and not Alvin Drew's. I am curious if the books themselves have the same deal. |

Man, Jay, you catch this stuff quick!Additionally, if anyone hasn't tried yet, the e-book file despite its 51+ MB size is actually quite lo-res. The text is OK, the images...not so much. Nothing like the downloadable PDFs of NASA publications that we're used to. This e-book is adequate for online viewing, but nothing I'd bother printing. |

Agree. I received my copy from the GPO Bookstore on Friday, and it's certainly an attractive, well-presented keepsake book. No regrets at all for $48, but $60 strikes me as a bit of tourist gouging. Amazon.com now lists the book as well, though not available yet. Be interested to see if they actually sell it, and for how much. Oh, and to answer your questions, Jay...yes, the book has the same two obsoleted patches, even though the text for both missions lists the correct crewmembers. Oh well. |

I thought this book was a bit disappointing. There is no information about the missions that cannot be found in many other places, and the DOD missions are devoid of any information at all besides the flight number.The best part for me was seeing the astronauts age as the flights progress. I've come to know a few shuttle astros in the past few years and it's interesting to see how they looked 20-30 years ago. |

I thought it was good. Not great cause of lack of more info on each mission but a good reference book for quick info and even to get autographs on. |
