Haynes Ownership Manual Astronaut: 1961 Onwards (All Roles and Nationalities)
by Ken McTaggart
The book will inform the space enthusiast and general reader about what an astronaut does, the experience of space flight, the equipment he uses, and what it takes to become an astronaut. It will also appeal to aspiring 'spaceflight participants' in the forthcoming new industry of space tourism being developed by Virgin Galactic, XCOR, Bigelow, Space-X, Boeing and other companies.

Although concentrating on contemporary astronaut selection and flight, especially with NASA, ESA and Russia, it will also cover astronaut experiences of pioneering missions of the past and some proposed for the near future, such as lunar flight and landing, asteroid rendezvous and travel to Mars.

  • Hardcover: 176 pages
  • Haynes Publishing UK (March 1, 2017)
  • ISBN-10: 1785210610
  • ISBN-13: 978-1785210617

This has to be one of the most beautifully-presented space books I have seen in a long time. Today I received a review copy of Ken MacTaggart's brand-new work [Haynes Manual] "Astronaut: 1961 Onwards" and it is quite magnificent, with hundreds of well-chosen, high quality and right up-to-date colour illustrations.

The more I delved into this book, the more I admired the way it had been written and put together. It is subdivided into different chapters such as Training for Space, Life in Orbit and Back to Earth, and even though I have not had a chance to read through all the text, what I did read was terrific.

But it is the glorious photographs that are really captivating, and make this a real must-have book for any space enthusiast. Ken MacTaggart, take a bow!
