I received this email today:
Edwardsflighttest.com is thrilled to announce the soon-to-be-published autobiography of legendary Air Force and NASA test pilot Fitzhugh L. 'Fitz' Fulton, Jr., entitled "Father of the Mother Planes." This self-published venture has been over 20 years in the making.

In his own words, Fitz has covered his incredible aviation career that spans more than four decades. While in the service, Fitz flew in the Berlin Airlift and Korean War, tested the Air Force's newest bombers, launched every 'X-Plane' from the X-1 to the X-15 and flew the Mach 2 B-58 Hustler and triplesonic XB-70 Valkyrie.

After retiring from the Air Force, he flew for NASA piloting aircraft such as the YF-12 Blackbird and 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. After leaving NASA, he became a test pilot for Burt Rutan's Scaled Composites.

This 8-1/2x11 book is 270 pages and contains nearly 60 black-and-white photographs. We expect delivery by the end of May, and with a small print run of only 200 copies, this book is expected to sell-out quickly. Edwardsflightest.com is your exclusive source for purchasing this great piece of aerospace history. Fitz has kindly agreed to autograph 50 copies to be sold as special editions. Included with the special editions will be a DVD containing nearly 400 photos covering Fitz and his flying career. The DVD will NOT be sold separately.

Standard-edition books are priced at $29.95 while the signed, special editions with DVD will be sold for $75 (shipping not included). With only 50 special edition copies available, there is a strict limit of one-per-customer. Don't miss this opportunity to own a unique source of aerospace history.

Great news!

Maybe a better title should have been "Father of the Mother Planes, Uncle to the Astronauts."

Just got word that the book is at the printer and is on track for delivery later this month. Requests for the book have been brisk with less than 10 copies of the standard edition still available.

A very informative book. Looks a lot like the excellent LLRV/LLTV history that was published a few years ago. I like the way it is divided into short chapters dealing with the individuals planes that Fulton flew. And there are a lot of those... It was a fascinating period in aviation history.

What always surprises me is how much details men such as Fulton remember about their lives, even about their youth. Especially when these lives are filled with so much highlights.

I must add that the picture CD included with the special version also contains a lot of gems.

Well done!

A nice book with an excellent layout and photos. I was compelled to buy it after I saw Col. Fulton being interviewed on the Military Channel series Great Planes focusing on the XB-70. For anyone interested in flight test and aviation history, the book is highly recommended.

Fellow mothership pilot Joe Cotton calls Fitz "the modern day Charles Lindbergh". I don't believe anyone who flew with or around Fitz would disagree.

Already a National Aviation Hall of Famer this man is the penultimate test pilot.

I'm about halfway through. The combo of Fitz and Mike Machat is phenomenal.
