Google Lunar XPRIZE release
Tim Allen to Narrate Fulldome Show for the Google Lunar XPRIZE

Premiering in November, Renowned Actor Takes Audience To Infinity and Beyond in Back To The Moon For Good

Legendary actor Tim Allen is teaming up with XPRIZE to narrate Back To The Moon For Good, an educational fulldome planetarium show debuting this November at digital planetariums around the world. The 25-minute digital film highlights the history of exploring the Moon and provides an insider's look into the teams vying for the $30 million Google Lunar XPRIZE, the largest incentivized prize in history.

Back To The Moon For Good begins with a tour through the history of space exploration, tracing back to the first era of explorers in the 1960s and 1970s. We hear from some of the teams racing to land an unmanned spacecraft on the moon and win the Google Lunar XPRIZE. The audience is taken through a successful launch, landing and journey along the lunar surface. The show ends with a glimpse of a plausible scenario of humanity's future settlement on the moon.

The stunning visuals and compelling narrative of the show explain the importance of the Google Lunar XPRIZE in encouraging today's space entrepreneurs and innovators to collaborate toward building a new space economy while inspiring the next generation to "shoot for the moon."

"Although the benefits of going back to the moon are well-known within the space community, the mission of this film – and the Google Lunar XPRIZE – is to re-ignite an interest in space exploration amongst people of all ages and from all walks of life," said Robert K. Weiss, film veteran and vice-chairman and president of XPRIZE. "As such, we needed a narrator that was recognizable and resonates with all audiences. Tim Allen's illustrious career makes him the perfect fit to take our message 'to infinity and beyond.'"

The dome show was created by NSC Creative, an award-winning computer animation studio specializing in immersive fulldome shows, produced by XPRIZE, and written by Ryan Wyatt.

I liked the idea that the program was going to be offered "in early November 2013 for a no-cost lease."

But checking into it, learned that only portable domes will be permitted to download it for free, whereas fixed-dome theaters must pay "$350 for the hard drive and shipping."

That's disappointing because we have a new digital planetarium in the area being run on a shoe string at a local county nature center that might be a great place to show it.
