Apollo 13 Manual: An Insight into the Development, Events and Legacy of NASA's 'Successful Failure' by David Baker On 13 April 1970, Apollo 13 suffered a near-catastrophic explosion. The planned lunar landing was instantly called off and the new challenge was to get the spacecraft safely back to Earth. When the carbon dioxide in the three astronauts exhaled breath threatened to asphyxiate them, the crew improvised a filter device, which had been tested in Mission Control, to make the air breathable. Only hours before hurtling back into the atmosphere did they power up the Apollo spacecraft again not knowing if it had been fatally damaged in the explosion. Here is the in-depth, inside technical story of how a potential disaster became NASA s finest hour, told by a member of the team working in Mission Control during the crisis to ensure the astronauts safety. - Hardcover: 192 pages
- Publisher: J H Haynes & Co Ltd (3 Oct 2013)
- ISBN-10: 0857333879
- ISBN-13: 978-0857333872

Surely another great book by David Baker. But why is it available at Amazon UK only? |

Haynes are based in the UK; my guess is that this will turn up on Amazon USA closer to the release date. That's been the case with the other books in the series. |

Correct. This title has yet to also make it to Haynes' website, though! And the NASA Mars rover book, also from Haynes, is available in the UK but will be released next month in the US. |

Both Amazon US and UK have the title with a release date of October 3. Both also have another version, cheaper, slated for November 15. |

The two versions are the same book. The one linked in the first post is published by Haynes in the UK, and the other is through Zenith Press in the USA. |

I just received my copy from Barnes & Noble online. This edition is not a general reprint of the Apollo 11 Haynes Manual from 2010 but instead a wealth of Apollo Program information. Definitely worth purchasing! |

I purchased this book and already I'm ready to give it away. It's way too technical for me. It really is a Technical Manual. If you're an engineer or physicist/mathematician then you'll probably love it. For the non-technical spaceflight enthusiast nah! |
