Just picked up a Robert McCall piece for my collection. If you get a chance to deal with his daughter Catherine she is a delight to work with.

Inside Sky Lab

Size: 39"x47"
Year: 1971
Medium: Acrylic on Board

A view inside of an early design of Space Lab which is part of the Space Station. This interior is not unlike the current Space Station. These astronauts are floating in a weightless environment.

That is a classic Robert McCall work of art. You can even see that style inside the visitors' booth in the old MOCR at Johnson Space Center. It is a beautiful work and it is a large piece too.

There aren't many works of art left for collectors of McCall. Bob donated all his works to the University of Arizona a few years before his death. His daughter kept up the website that had some works that she had received from him to sell. Catherine has sold off most of the good space pieces at this point.

Great pick up. You should check to see if that work was printed in any publication like Life Magazine back in the day.

I believe I have seen it in a large book called 'Eyewitness to Space', but I am not sure. I am not at home to check it right now. Could also have been one of the two McCall books I have.

I just Googled "Eyewitness to Space" and it looks like the pieces in that book are from 1963-1969. I have the book "The Art of Robert McCall" and didn't see it in there. I'm hoping to get a little more information on it.

Okay, I found it in a 1974 book called 'Unsere Welt im All'. The text is by Isaac Asimov and the paintings by Robert McCall. Preface is by Buzz Aldrin. It is a German book, but it seems the original was in English. The original title isn't mentioned.

I believe it's Our World In Space. A great oversized art book of McCall's work.

Oh, that is fantastic. You already like the painting enough to buy it, and THEN you find out it's featured in a nice-looking book of his work! Maybe you could have the book open to that page on a little stand near the painting.

Great idea. I'm trying to find out if it was published in any magazine back in the time. Unfortunately Catherine didn't have much info on it.

I just received a copy of this book from Amazon, and it so much fun to look at all of those concepts that I remember seeing in magazines when I was younger. Such a great time when the future of the shuttle was not written. Anything was possible.

The book was about $5 and in great shape. Thanks for the inspiration to grab a copy.

Thanks for everyone's help. I was able to find a nice copy of the book and as suggested I am displaying below the painting. Thanks again.
