I'm surprised that they seem to have missed this Tom Petty one, which was being heavily promoted recently. |

Spiritualized lead singer Jason 'Spaceman' Pierce's previous band was Spacemen 3, and his most succesful album was 'Ladies & Gentleman, We Are Floating In Space'.It's something of a theme.  |

It doesn't have an astronaut on its cover , but Mostly Bears' debut album, "The Ed Mitchell Clinic," is named after one, reports the Arizona Daily Star: The group named its new album after Apollo 14 astronaut Ed Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the moon who experienced something bassist Geoffrey Hidalgo called "instant global awareness": seeing the planet from afar and realizing that the world is one.Space is a recurring theme in the world of Mostly Bears. The title song on the "Only Child" EP mentions dreaming of "stars and astronauts" and the "Ed Mitchell" artwork shows planets behind a deconstructed sketch of a human. Lopez said he's infatuated with the final frontier, and it carries over into the band's music. "If you took away the vocals, there'd still be a spacelike element to it," he said. |

The posting about the Ed Mitchell Clinic album reminded me of the Spiderbait album, Flight of Wally Funk.The band were inspired by reading Wally's story, and she and the band have been in touch with each other and had some fun conversations. |

A couple of examples that pop into mind are the cover of the Afgham Whigs album "1965" (featuring a photo of the Ed White EVA) and the cover of Sleeper's album "Smart" (featuring the iconic photo of the Mercury Seven in their silver spacesuits). |

I think that picture confirms my suspicion that NASA has missed a trick all these years by not making greater use of surly looking cats in the space programe. |
