Via io9's Lauren Davis, here are two recent animations featuring abbreviated biographies of NASA astronauts Jerry Carr and Ron McNair. Carr narrates his own story for TEDEducation, while Carl McNair visits StoryCorps to share his late brother's path to the stars.
In a recent TED Lesson, Carr shared his experience as a NASA astronaut, from training up until he was assigned to Skylab. It touches on the parts of astronaut life that don't happen in space — the training, the waiting, and the disappointment in having a mission canceled. But it's still riveting, especially accompanied by Sharon Colman Graham's animation.
With the help of StoryCorps, McNair's brother Carl pays tribute to McNair with this uplifting story of a young Ronald McNair trying to borrow books from a whites-only library in South Carolina and later witnessing the multiracial future of Star Trek.
