According to C21Media: The BBC is teaming up with London-based indie Dangerous Films to produce a two-part NASA documentary featuring an exclusive interview with astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man on the Moon. The two-episode series is titled, "NASA: Triumph and Tragedy".Dangerous Films is the same production company behind Discovery Channel's "When We Left Earth" miniseries. In addition to the reported interview with Armstrong, Dangerous Films recently worked with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation to arrange for additional astronaut access. Astronauts who participated in the interviews on behalf of the Foundation included: Vance Brand, Frank Borman, Scott Carpenter, Bob Crippen, Eileen Collins, Charlie Duke, Fred Haise, Jack Lousma, Jim Lovell and Tom Stafford. According to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, the miniseries is scheduled to air on BBC in July. |

Well, perhaps the switcheroo they pulled on Armstrong with the "When We Left Earth" interviews/narration didn't sour his opinion of them as much as was speculated. That's certainly a piece of good news for future documentarians and space enthusiasts alike.So, I assume an announcement from Discovery or the Science Channel regarding this series in the US will be forthcoming. Maybe a Fall/Winter 2009 airing? |

I am guessing the exclusive interview with Armstrong may actually be the same interview they shot for the "When We Left Earth" miniseries, just shown at greater length...or using different bits.Indeed, if they are simply milking the same interview over and over again for each new series, it will only succeed in further souring Neil's opinion of them (and interviews in general). |

Without breaking confidences, I can confirm that Armstrong did not provide a new interview to Dangerous Films for "NASA: Triumph and Tragedy". (In fact, he's never provided them an interview, new or otherwise, only a prepared monologue as previously discussed in the "When We Left Earth" thread.) The misrepresentation is regrettable, but it my understanding that Armstrong denied Dangerous Films' request to re-purpose his remarks for this new two-part documentary. |

:shakes head:Of course, if Neil denied their request to reuse his remarks, will they still use them anyway or is there some legal way to keep them from using the tape? |

Just noticed in the TV schedules that this two part series is getting a repeat in the UK on the Yesterday channel at 5pm on Monday and Tuesday of this week. |

This series was shown again on the UK "Yesterday" channel over the weekend. Of course, I only noticed after Part 1 had been shown. I have tried to find a Bluray version of this film (or just a standard DVD)but no luck so far. Does anyone know where I could get the series on disc? |
