I was recently privileged to be among the very first people to read the amazing authorised biography of Story Musgrave, written by fellow Aussie, Anne Lenehan. It is a remarkably well told tale of this quite extraordinary man, and is certainly not your usual dry, chronological biography. If you know the personality of Story Musgrave, you'll know that this is the perfect book about him. I read the final proofs and I've only just received my copy of the hardcover, 465-page book fresh from the printers. The author is right now arranging launches and distribution in the States and elsewhere, so though it may be a few weeks before it's on general release, it's a great book to look forward to. Just a note of caution - Story loves the book dearly, but says he's not interested in doing any book signings at this time as he is "only" the subject - not the author. The book is called "Story: The Way of Water." |

Sounds great... I was able to meet Story last April, and can imagine his biography will be as fascinating as he is! |

I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their very positive feedback about my biography of Story Musgrave, "Story: The Way of Water". I have received numerous emails from excited readers and it is very satisfying to know that what I have created is a readable and uplifting portrait of a very unique individual of our times. Story has a very creative, yet down-to-earth way of looking at things which is the result of some incredible life experiences, as well as years of study and continuous self-improvement. I learned so much from Story during the research process and now find that I cannot look at my world in the same way that I did even five years ago. A big "Thank You" to Story for permitting me to write about him for the people of today, and for the benefit of many generations to come. |

Anne, you did a tremendous job in taking an incredibly diverse life and presenting it in a fascinating and readable form. Probably my favorite space book for 2004. |

Anne -- let me add my own kudos and thanks... to both you, and Story. A wonderful read. Looking forward to your future projects!By the way — we all know that interesting items always hit the cutting room floor, either because there wasn't enough room or something just didn't fit the scope of the project. Any interesting tidbits that you wish were in the book? Did we miss any great moments in the writing of the book? Just curious. And again — great job and thanks for a great read! |

It's a difficult question to answer - did anything get left on the cutting room floor? Probably not much, because I had decided on the format (themes) right up front, so went searching for information that would naturally fit within those topics. So maybe the things that didn't fit within those topics are the things that didn't make it into the book. Very little was edited out of the final draft.Perhaps the other thing which is not stated so much in the book (only in a sentence or two) is the effect that the whole process has had on my own life in terms of triggering a new philosophical and practical journey. My level of consciousness of the world and of myself is a lot higher for having witnessed how Story approaches life. I hope that by getting to know Story through the book, others will also be touched in a unique way. Story is, in my opinion, one of the greatest thinkers the world has ever produced. As a friend of mine said, if he was born 200 years ago, he would have been Beethoven!

Following a request from a crew member, and permission being granted by NASA, a copy of Story Musgrave's new biography, "Story: The Way of Water" by Sydney-based author Anne Lenehan, will be electronically transferred to the ISS for the enjoyment (and possible education) of this and subsequent Expedition crews. I'm sure that Story's take on his own EVA's will be read with great interest up there. |

That will be an excellent addition to the ISS library. Story is a great warm human being and anyone lucky to have visited with him knows. The first time I met him was in a Home Depot store I worked at in 1997. What a trip to turn the corner and there in front of you is one of the most accomplished people ever! — and he asking me for help. What a trip! |

I just finished reading this book. This is a complex book (or was for me) but I think I 'get it'. The book is not written very 'conventionally' but I truly think it captures the 'essence' of Story Musgrave. Clearly Story Musgrave is a complex human being - perhaps more than most. His ability and determination to overcome the adversity and misfortune of his early life and attain the achievements of his adult years is exemplary and extraordinary. I think the book does a very good job of capturing this record. His highs and lows are put out there so as to see him as flesh and blood, no superman. I get the feeling that if I ever met Story Musgrave I wouldn't know what to say to him but I think just looking at his face he would be able to tell me something. I was glad the book had some photographs from his personal life. His smiling face as a young marine betrays a deep sadness, his close encounter with Goose shows his heart. If you pick up the book and expect a conventional bio you may be disappointed. You need to let the man sit beside you to fully understand it. |

As it happens, I just recently heard from Anne (Lenehan), who shared that that "Story: The Way of Water" is now in eBook format, available for Kindle and from the iTunes store. The book is no longer in print (hard copy) due to the distribution logistics. The new eBook version contains the same text as the original, but does feature a new cover, adds a new photo, and updated acknowledgements. |
