Got an email this morning that Easton Press is publishing a leather bound volume commemorating the life of Neil Armstrong.

According to the website, the books wont ship for a couple of months, but you can reserve a copy now. Might be a nice memento to have in your collection.

A hundred bucks for a book that is less than 100 pages? This almost smacks of the same commercialization of the man's passing I see for all the covers and t-shirts people are hawking on eBay with the man's image on it...

Easton Press is well known for high-end "collector" versions of published books. I have a few editions of theirs from an author whose work I collect. But those are real books and quite thick.

Save your money for the paperback version you see on newsstands that also celebrate the lives of John Wayne, the Beatles, and Marilyn Monroe. Time-Life has an excellent photo library so they should fill up the 96 pages well. They did reissue the big glossy LIFE special edition on Apollo 11 several years back; I have that one and the original from 1969.

You can pick up a hardback copy of "MoonFire: The Epic Journey of Apollo 11" for around $30.

If you want an impressive documentary record of arguably Neil's finest moment you know what to do.

Thanks for that Rick.
Sainsburys have hardback copies for £19.99. Seems like a bargain.

THIS. As I posted on that book's thread, the mass-market hardcover of Moonfire is a tremendous bargain.

I found Life's magazine style issue of this on the shelf the other day for $14.99 US. Actually very well done with great photos given the short timeframe on it's release.

Time Home Entertainment, Inc. release
Neil Armstrong 1930-2012 — By the Editors of LIFE

Commemorative Book Captures the Life of an American Icon (From His Boyhood Years to the Day He Changed the World Forever)

In 1969, the world watched in awe as Neil Armstrong took "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." More than 40 years later, at a time when the world is again marveling at the wonders of space as the space rover beams remarkable images back from Mars, we stop to commemorate the man whose name is forever linked to space exploration and one of the greatest accomplishments in human history. A new commemorative book, Neil Armstrong 1930-2012 (Time Home Entertainment Inc.; hardcover; 2012; $17.95), celebrates the life of a very private man who suddenly belonged to the world — and to history — when he bravely set foot on the moon.

The book is filled with dozens of images captured by LIFE photographers; these range from photographs of Armstrong's childhood years growing up in Ohio when he first discovered his love of flight, to the historic space race of the 50's and 60's, to the tick-tock coverage of Apollo 11. He was, according to Neil Armstrong 1930-2012, shy, dutiful, likable, and preternaturally calm under pressure (perhaps the most important characteristic of an astronaut).

His first step on the moon instantly granted Armstrong the lifelong label of American hero and icon, but as thrillingly documented in the pages of this commemorative LIFE tribute, his entire life was always about pushing the limits in service for his country, from his time in the Korean War to his days as a test pilot, to his moon walk and beyond.

The editors at LIFE vigorously carry on the traditions of excellence in photography, journalism and storytelling about our country and our world, which began with the founding of LIFE magazine in 1936 by editor and publisher Henry R. Luce. They have published books on a broad range of subjects, including New York Times bestsellers One Nation, LIFE Picture Puzzle and The American Journey of Barack Obama. The LIFE channel on TIME.com features LIFE's legendary photo archives. The acclaimed LIFE for iPad app reached #1 in 33 countries shortly after its November 2010 launch.

Any idea if this book will become available through Amazon after October 16? I cannot find any website(s) with pre-order for this (yet).

To what edition are your post referring to? The link to amazon is here.

For Easton Press, you'll have to email them. They will create an account for you.

For European members willing to get the LIFE edition this seems to be the best option cost wise.

Just got my hardback LIFE edition and it's well worth the £10 price tag. In fact it's a real bargain for a large format hardback book.
