Has any astronaut/cosmonaut every talked about a book they like about spaceflight (apart from their own autobiographies)?

Good question - I look forward to hearing replies. Kind of like that peer vote for the Mercury 7 to determine the first astronaut to fly - "If it can't be you, who should it be?"

I'm sure Collins' 'Carrying the Fire' would be high on anyone's list.

I would not expect it to be a favourite but Brian O'Leary's book 'The Making of an Ex Astronaut' was probably well read at the time. Another which may have attracted insider curiosity would be Mike Mullane's more recent book 'Riding Rockets'.

I was at Fred Haise's table at the ASF Apollo 16 gala in April and asked him this very question. He said his favorite book about Apollo was Andrew Chaikin's "A Man on the Moon".

I took my copy of "A Man On The Moon" to Spacefest 3 and got it signed by every Apollo astronaut present. Without exception, every astronaut recognized the book instantly and praised both the book and the author.
