The August 2014 (no. 111) issue of BBC Sky at Night magazine includes a feature on "Collecting the Cosmos." Writer Keiron Allen interviewed Bonhams' auctioneer Matthew Haley, Spacerocks UK and TheSpaceStation proprietor (and cS member) David Bryant, and myself about how to get started collecting space memorabilia. Gone are the days when space memorabilia collectors were forced to scour the internet for hard-to-find items or travel to small, pop-up shows across the country in search of an elusive piece of space rock. Collecting space memorabilia has become a big business and there are more and more people vying for a slice of space history. Whether it's through a world-class auction house or one of the many dedicated online shops, it's never been easier to start a collection or add to an existing one. We spoke to three experts who make a living from the space memorabilia industry to find out how they got started and what tips they have for budding collectors. |

The term "centre-fold" usually suggests something quite different... |

Robert, is that correct that you have 250,000 members of cS as that figure really seems astronomical? Didn't realise there were so many of us. Great to see David and yourself interviewed in such a prestigious magazine. |

Yes, over the past 15 years, we have registered 250,000 members, though many have never posted. Some percentage are fake accounts (though the count does not include spam or spoof accounts we've been able to identify). A good subset are people who have registered and then never do anything with the account. We've recently instituted a system to start archiving those members if dormant for more than a year. |

Robert and I haven't always seen things the same way, but IMHO collectSPACE is the very spine of the hobby. Without him and his site we'd have nowhere near the available news, opinion and data.... |

And that's what makes this site great, the fact that everyone has there own opinion on things and don't always agree which in turn can create some really interesting topics to read.If we all agreed on everything and never disagreed than that would make this site rather dull and boring and that's why I love this site and reading all the posts on here as everyone has there own opinion on things and is allowed to say what they feel (within reason). Again Robert, thank you. |
