In October 2012, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. ESO has two superb books in the works:
  • Europe to the Stars
  • The Jewel on the Mountaintop

Soon available for ordering via the ESOshop.

Thanks for the link. Switzerland has recently agreed to contribute to the construction of the ESO E-ELT (European Extremely Large Telescope).

Europe to the Stars, a long-awaited book on Europe's largest astronomical organization. I contributed to Appendix 1 (ESO telescopes 1962-2012) and can confirm is profusely illustrated with great color photos and panoramic views.

The book will become available as a PDF download.
