I remember a while back that I was able to request lithos from Johnson Space Center. Unfortunately, I can't remember how I did this or if it is even still available.

I believe I faxed them a list and they sent me the lithos. Does anyone have the fax number (or better yet, an e-mail address — that would be much more convenient) that I can request lithos from?

They aren't handing out individual lithos if this is what you're seeking, only crew photos.

The fax number is: 281-244-8873.

I believe it's still the same. I've only used it once years ago.

Is it possible to e-mail and request specific lithos? If so, can someone provide me with the e-mail address?

Try writing to Kennedy Space Center public affairs. I've written to them multiple times. They respond quicker.

John F Kennedy Space Center
Mail Code XA-D2
Kennedy Space Center, Florida 32899

That's for crew photos only.

Just tried to obtain a few photos via an e-mail request.

Not to be recommended, all they do is suggest you download them. Disappointing, as I had specifically asked for them to be mailed to me if available. I will continue to write to the previous address.

How far back can they send you? I am working on a little project and I need to get some crew photos, the earliest two are Soyuz TM-33 and STS-108. Can I get those or do I have to look else where for ones that far back?

I would think STS-108 should be no problem, but not TM-33, as it was not a NASA mission, nor did it have a NASA astronaut on board.

Thanks for the advice. Does the RSA make crew photos or anything like that?

I got a reply back saying that "multiple request from the same name and address for photographs and/or literature are not honored" and "the information you requested may be available at the NASA website." Does that mean I need to request the photos one at at time? Or is it because I accidentally sent the request for the older photos a few weeks after I requested a STS-132 crew photo?

It could mean they are screening the mail on writers who repeatedly write for photos within short time, like every month.

I faxed in a request for 14 astronaut portrait lithos on April 12. Today came two lithos with a card stating the following:
Astronaut Photo Policy

We received your request for astronaut photographs. Since the Astronaut Office only has a limited supply of photos, it is our policy to sign and return only two photographs for any one person or address. After two photographs have been sent, our office cannot sign or return any more requests for autographs. We appreciate your interest in the United States Space Program.

Astronaut Office Mailroom

I only asked for the lithos. The two lithos came neither signed nor autopenned.

The official word is that JSC is only sending out two lithos at a time per request. Unfortunately, I believe this is a cost cutting measure. Also, its a way of cutting down the number of lithos that are sent out and then unfortunately sold on eBay for profit.

I remember long ago, you could write to JPL and ask for certain photos and a few weeks later, there they were. My brother and I abused this horribly when we were kids, and of course none of those prints are around today.

But still, I see them on eBay all the time, especially the mission decals. Where do people get those and the lithos from NASA directly?

At the NASA HQ in Washington D.C. you could find the NASA litho of the latest shuttle mission.

With the internet, the number of prints has decreased for sure, the last lithos I got were those for the Kepler mission: Three different lithos showing the space telescope, the Delta launch vehicle and the area of the Milky Way where Kepler is observing.

I have to assume that you can no longer get crew lithographs for shuttle flights from NASA.

I did not continue my collection after STS-107, mainly because I was downloading crew photos and press kits instead. But, I would like to find PDFs of the lithographs and print them myself, if possible. Does anyone know where I can find the remaining missions?

Should be able to find the crew pics on the NASA photo websites and get them printed locally.

Yes, I found those, but I am looking for the lithos with crew bios and mission info printed on the backside. I could print PDFs of those at FedEx.

Further to my previous entry, if you suspended collecting shuttle crew lithos following the release of STS-107, you should have STS-108 thru to 113, given they preceded the print runs for 107. That leaves 22 to collect.

If you have an unbroken chain from STS-1 through to 113 (and the finances permit) I'd recommend JSC, eBay and of course, a request from the good people on this board to grab the rest.

It would seem a shame to not complete the collection.

Yep, Mike, that is what I need, the last 22 flights. I am kicking myself for not getting them after 135. I emailed JSC and they know of no place that they are stored as PDFs. Nor do they have them available either. I will watch eBay.

Hi, thump, missed your post. I was just able to obtain a big part of what I was missing. I am now only missing 2! STS-121 and STS-118.

Do you or anyone else have these two extra?

This thread takes me back to the "good old days." I was only recently reminiscing to my wife about my excitement when the postman arrived in the 1970s with my photos and literature requests from NASA. Often I would receive many goodies I hadn't even asked for! Ahh... golden days.

Those were the days. I think the fact that I did a term paper on the shuttle in high school was an excuse to get free materials from NASA and Rockwell!

Ah, memories... I remember on more than one occasion (around 1970) I sent an air mail request to NASA on Monday and on Saturday the postman delivered a big brown envelope stuffed with NASA lithographs and booklets.

When I heard that Apollo 20 had been cancelled, I thought it might have been partly my fault!

I picked up a litho of the Enterprise crews, all four crew-members. I did not know this one existed.

But, now, as I was just looking through them, I realized that the crew photo for STS-83 is not duplicated for the re-flight on STS-94. I found a thread here that says they used the same photo. I did not realize that I will only have 134 crew photos for the orbital crews!

STS-83/94: I think the crew pose is the same, but they photoshopped a different colour background into the STS-94 crew photo. Whether they made any lithos for the 2nd flight, I don't know.

Does anyone know if you can still contact NASA and obtain the official crew photos for specific shuttle missions?

Would really like to have one for each of the DOD specific flights from 85-92.

I was just told by the Astronaut Office that NASA has stopped printing the free crew portrait lithographs they have always made and sent out and now they are only available online.

Can anyone tell me what ISS expedition was the last to have a crew lithograph printed?

Since Expedition 1, there have been a total of 55 ISS crew lithos released.

The last was Expedition crew 42 and that was April 2015.
