Coming in 2010 from director Kevin Stirling, Moon Beat:
Forty years ago, Apollo XI journeyed to the Sea of Tranquility and returned safely to earth, thereby achieving President Kennedy’s goal, while capturing the dreams, passions and emotions of a first-time ever, truly global audience.

The summer of 1969 was an historic time, a turbulent time of war and a time before cell phones, 24-hour cable news or the Internet. It was a time when daily newspapers, magazines and just three major U.S. television networks kept an Apollo XI news-hungry public informed.

Around the world, the BBC covered the epic flight for an even larger European audience, and reporters from Germany, France, Japan and from all corners of the globe were focused on that one story.

This award-winning documentary film explores the behind-the scenes world of the beat reporters, NASA media officials and many others who played an important role in communicating the stories about the Apollo XI mission and the U.S. space program.

According to a recent release, Moon Beat has been selected into the upcoming NewFilmmakers NY Winter Festival for an evening preview screening on Tuesday January 5, at the Anthology Film Archives.

Director Kevin Stirling also appeared on C-SPAN on Dec. 2 to discuss his film (our own Ken Havekotte receives a nice nod towards the end of the interview).

Having been part of the effort of the Apollo and subsequent programs in the '60s and on at the 'Cape', I can attest to the accuracy as well as informative content of the movie. To quote Maurice Chavalier from the movie "Gigi", "Ah yes, I remember it well".

Moonbeat takes you to one of the last great efforts of journalistic coverage, when journalists were truly reporters and not hacks. Also for me and anyone who lived through this era, it is a sentimental journey to a better time in the world of TV coverage as well as American accomplishments.

Very enjoyable and true to the events. Nice work, Kevin.
