I have been asked to convert some interesting space audio on reel to reel tapes. However, I do not have the capability to transfer the tapes - hence this post.I am wondering if someone from the UK who has a working reel-to-reel tape recorder and can transfer tapes to digital WAV or MP3 format would be interested in getting involved with this small project. If you are interested please get in touch. |

I have done this with my own reel to reel audio tapes that I recorded as a child during Apollo 11.I have a 1/4" reel to reel deck, however I live in Indianapolis, Indiana USA. I would be interested in doing this audio tape transfer if you can not find someone closer to you. |

The BBC is pretty much an all-digital outfit these days. Can't remember the last time I saw a reel-to-reel at work. At any rate, a project like this probably needs a machine at home. Are the recording parameters available? (Mono, stereo, 2-track, 4-track, recording speed). — David |

I still have a Pioneer 10-1/2" 2-track reel-to-reel, haven't powered it on in about 15 years though. I would imagine any tapes I have are too brittle to play though - can you even get new tapes for this format? |

You can pick up players on eBay for very good prices. I converted NTSC Betamax recordings I had of the A11 re-telecast for €120. At the end of it I re-sold the player for the same amount so I essentially paid nothing for the transfer. The same would apply to audio recordings.Also, if the tapes are on metal reels I would strongly recommend tape-baking. |

I have several 1/4-inch reel-to-reel audio tapes that I made during the Gemini 6-12 missions, the Surveyor 1 landing (very dramatic as I recall) and possibly the launch of MA-9 (Faith 7 and Gordon Cooper).If anyone has the capability to make digital transfers of them, please contact me and I will dig them out. The only hitch is that they were made on an old Webcor, 4-track, reel-to-reel audio tape machine that is long-gone. |
