I collect limited edition books signed by astronauts and related authors. I am trying to create a list of books that are signed limited. Below is the list I currently have - does anyone have any to add? I know there is a limited Armstong book out there but I don't know the name. There is a limited run of a book about Bill Lear signed by Armstrong and Aldrin. |

FlatSigned Press also published a S/L edition of Buzz Aldrin's Men From Earth.Lost Moon was published in a S/L/1st edition in leather signed by both authors (different from the one done by Easton Press a few years later) Easton Press published a S/L/1st (leather) of The Trikon Deception by William Pogue & Ben Bova. |

I am not quite sure this falls within the category but Apogee Books released "The Real Space Cowboys" signed by Wally Schirra and Ed Buckbee and "Around the World in 84 Days" signed by Jerry Carr. |

I just received a copy of Buzz Aldrin's "Men From Earth" from an eBay auction. It is the leather bound Flatsigned Edition, limited to 1500 copies. The quality is very high like the Easton Press books, however for some reason Tim Miller, the Flatsigned publisher, did not include the photos that are in the regular edition. For you book collectors out there, does this detract from its ultimate value and collectability to you? I'm considering returning it even though I got the book for far less than Aldrin’s signing fee it sort of lessens it's value to me, am I being too picky? |

My initial feeling is the same as yours. If anything, I think a S/L edition should have MORE material than the original, not less.The pictures are part of the overall message of the book. I'm glad you posted this, because I've been noticing these books going for cheap on eBay, and had intended to get one. Now I think I'll pass. Still, a guaranteed signature for less than Buzz's signing price? Hmm... |

From that stand point it was a very good deal. Limited to 1500 copies. Currently selling for $189 on the Flatsigned web but much less on eBay. I just won mine for about $86 with shipping included. It is a very high quality book, just omitting the photos. Like you, I think the photos are critical and special editions should/could even contain more content.These special editions are good in the sense that they are limited, even the somewhat open editions from Easton Press like their current astronaut offerings are "limited" in that while they aren't numbered the ultimate number sold will never be too high. Easton also had a S/N run for "Men From Earth". As far as astronaut autobiographies go, I found Aldrin's "Men From Earth" very solid. To me better than "Return to Earth." Easton currently has Dr. Aldrin's "Magnificent Desolation" available. I can't comment on that book, I haven't read it yet. They also currently have Mike Mullane's "Riding Rockets", excellent. Walter Cunningham's, "The All American Boys" the revised edition, also excellent as well as the revised edition of Edgar Mitchell's "The Way of the Explorer for only the cost of his current signing fee. Another special moonwalker bargain is Capt. Cernan's "Last Man on the Moon." They also have Jim Lovell's "Lost Moon" under it's new title of "Apollo 13." Currently Easton is the best place to pick up special astronaut editions. The added advantage is the signatures are absolutely guaranteed to be authentic on these known editions so if you ever do resell that should never be an issue. The certificates of authenticity are something of a joke, if they can fake the special edition the cert should prove to be no problem to fake as well. I've read by some believing the signatures on those are real. They are not, they are very good facsimile signatures. | |
